Getting here

The lodge is at Antafondro, on the island of Nosy Be, off the north-west coast of Madagascar. You fly into Nosy Be, and the last part of the journey is by boat.

Flights

Flying into Nosy Be

Nosy Be has its own international airport, Fascene. Depending on where you start, you can fly straight there or change once on the way.

Direct

Air Austral from Saint-Denis, and Neos from Milan and Rome in season.

With one change

Ethiopian Airlines through Addis Ababa, or Airlink through Johannesburg. Both fly on to Nosy Be.

Regional flights

Madagascar Airlines flies to Nosy Be from Antananarivo, and Ewa Air flies in from Mayotte. Do not be surprised if Madagascar Airlines changes the day or time of your flight.

These are the routes as of September 2026. Check with the airline before you book.

From the airport

The last stretch is by boat

There is no road to the lodge. Your transfer from the airport is arranged, and we bring you the rest of the way ourselves, on our own boat, 30 minutes from Hell-Ville, Nosy Be’s main town.

Visas

Buy it when you land, or online before you go

You can buy your visa at the airport when you arrive, or apply for it online before you travel. The price is the same either way.

Up to 15 days

€30

Have proof of your return or onward flight ready.

Up to 30 days

€35

The same tourist visa, for a longer stay.

Up to 60 days

€40

And up to 90 days, €50.

To apply online, use evisamada-mg.com, the site Madagascar’s Ministry of Tourism names as official, between a week and six months before you leave. Sites that only look official charge extra for the same visa.

These are the fees Madagascar’s eVisa site gives from February 2026, paid by card. Some governments’ travel advice still shows the older €10 for a short stay. Your passport needs to be valid for at least six months after you arrive, with two blank pages, and the rules can differ by passport, so check your own government’s advice before you book: for example the UK or France.

Money

The ariary, and customs

The currency

Madagascar’s currency is the ariary. Changing money gets a poor rate, so take ariary out of an ATM instead. An ATM gives up to 800,000 ariary at a time, and you can withdraw as many times as you need.

Vanilla and spices

There are rules on taking vanilla, pepper and cloves out of Madagascar. Check them before you buy a quantity to bring home.
