This site is small, and it collects almost nothing. There is no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. The only personal data it handles is what you choose to send us: through the contact form, by email, or on WhatsApp.

What this site puts on your device
On every page but one: nothing. No cookies, nothing written to your browser’s storage. That is not a policy statement, it is how the site is built. There is no analytics, no tag manager and no advertising code anywhere on it, and even the typefaces are served from this site rather than fetched from Google, so reading these pages tells nobody but us that you were here.
The contact page is the exception, because it carries a Google map. The map is Google’s, it loads with the page, and Google may set cookies and will see your IP address when it does, exactly as it would on any site with a Google map. We get nothing from it and we do not read anything it sets. If you would rather not load it, the full address is written out beside the map and works just as well.
What we collect, and only when you send it
- The contact form: your name and email address, plus your phone or WhatsApp number, your dates, the size of your party and the excursions you are interested in if you fill those in, and whatever you write in the message.
- Email or WhatsApp: whatever is in the message you send, and the address or number you send it from.
Nothing is collected from visitors who only read the pages.
Why we have it
To answer you, and to arrange your stay if that is what you are asking about. The basis is your own request: you send it so that we can reply. If a booking follows, we also need it to carry out that agreement, and to meet the accounting obligations that come with it. We do not use your details for marketing, and we do not sell, rent or pass them to anyone for their own purposes.
Who else handles it
Four companies, and only because of how the message reaches us:
- Netlify hosts this site and receives contact-form submissions, which are stored in our account there.
- Google: our address is a Gmail address, so anything you email us, and any form submission forwarded on to us, is held in Google’s mail service. Google also serves the map on the contact page, which is a separate thing and gets none of what you send us.
- Akismet, run by Automattic, which Netlify passes every form submission through to check it is not spam.
- WhatsApp, owned by Meta, if you choose to message us that way.
That is the whole list. No one else receives your data.
Where it is held
We are in Madagascar. Netlify and Google are in the United States, so a message sent to us is stored outside the European Economic Area. Where European data protection law applies to a visitor, we rely on the safeguards those two providers publish for international transfers: the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, and the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
How long we keep it
We keep an enquiry for as long as we still need it, and no longer. Correspondence and records connected to an actual booking are kept for as long as accounting and tax rules require us to. You can ask us to delete anything sooner, and we will.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to or restrict how we use it, and receive a copy in a portable format. There is no automated decision-making and no profiling anywhere on this site.
Write to madabayslodge@gmail.com and we will deal with it. If you live in the European Economic Area and you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the data protection authority of the country you live in. The European Data Protection Board keeps the list of national authorities.
Links that leave this site
A few links take you somewhere else: the map on the contact page opens Google Maps, the WhatsApp links open WhatsApp, and the Our causes page links to the associations we support. Once you follow one of those you are on someone else’s site, under their policy, not ours.
If this changes
Any change is made on this page, and the date at the top changes with it.
